Welcome!

- Jaipreet Virdi is a PhD candidate at the Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology, University of Toronto. The title of the blog derives from the otologist Joseph (1815-1866), who infamously declared that he planned to "rescue aural surgery from the hands of quacks." This blog covers topics related to my dissertation, the history of medicine, the history of science, scientific material culture, instrumentation, and general academic and graduate issues.

- Please note that John Harrison Curtis’ biography and the state of aural surgery in nineteenth century Britain and France is an ongoing project for me. I’m still digging through archival sources, analyzing related primary texts, and reading connecting secondary sources. If you find an error with whatever I am saying, can recommend useful texts, or can direct me to appropriate archives/sources, please feel free to leave me a comment or email.
